Substandard Body Jewelry You Should Avoid

Body jewelry are cool additions to the body but it must be done with a great level of care and even under a sterile condition- especially as it regards body piercings. Moreover, using substandard jewelry is another cause for concerns. You should avoid certain types of jewelry when considering a choice of jewelry.

Some body jewelry to avoid include:

  • Those made with lead. Lead has been found to impair the nervous system as it is a neurotoxin hence its absorption in the body could portend health complications [through lead poisoning].
  • Fake gold should also be avoided as it could make your skin change colour. Plus it could result in a far greater (negative) result when used to fill your tongue piercing.
  • Body jewelry that are reactive with the body system should avoided like plague. Examples are those that contain nickel, zinc, brass, bronze and copper. These could trigger allergic reactions.

Another thing you need to be weary of is the rate at which infections could arise from your piercing and also the jewelry inserted therein (the piercing).

On the contrary, jewelry made from surgical stainless, alloys of palladium and titanium are safe to use as they have not been found to cause any health risk. Finally, if you intend using gold; make sure it is from 14k upwards- anything below this, might be hazardous to your health. Nonetheless, gold (body jewelry) should only be inserted in healed piercings.
